The 21st match of the Indian Premier League was held on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at M Chinnaswammy Stadium, Bangalore.
Earlier, Virat Kohli, the skipper of Royal Challengers Bangalore, won the toss and opted to chase. David Warner and Virender Sehwag appeared in the center with willows for Delhi Daredevils and gathered 15 runs in the second over with 3 fours. Sehwag looked in great touch and middled the ball nicely while sending it thrice rolling out of the fence in the fourth over. Both batsmen were removed from the scene at 43 when Warner had scored 15 followed by Sehwag for 25 and they were replaced by Manprit Juneja and their captain Mahela Jayawardene.
Juneja hit 2 fours in the 9th over but was gone after 17 runs as Ben Rohrer walked in the park but could not go further than 14 runs. Jayawardene was playing a steady innings and did not take any risk but ran himself out for 28 off 31 balls with 2 fours. The fifth wicket fell at 122 in 18 overs as Kedar Jadhav and Irfan Pathan took the score to a reasonable height. They remained unbeaten for 29 and 19 runs respectively as Delhi Daredevils smashed 152 in 20 overs with half of their team back in the pavilion.
Jaydev Unadkat was the top wicket taker with two whereas Vinay Kumar and Andrew McDonalds shared one wicket each.
Royal Challengers Bangalore lost their openers, Chris Gayle and Lokesh Rahul, within four overs at the total of 26 runs. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers took over the challenge and begun with 11 runs in the fifth over with 1 six from the latter. The pair kept on cruising at a proper speed and every over ended with one or two boundaries while Kohli accumulated 11 runs in the 11th over with a couple of fours. The score went past the hundred runs mark in the following over and Virat Kohli powered his fifty on the fourth ball of the 14th over with a boundary.
The hosts needed 27 runs from the last 30 deliveries that looked like a real easy target as AB de Villiers was unluckily run out for 39 off 32 with 1 six and 3 fours. It was just like a rain of wickets after that and Royal Challengers Bangalore batsmen were in a complete mess. Virat Kohli was caught by Mahela Jayawardene at extra cover off Umesh Yadav for 65 scored from 50 balls with 1 six and 7 fours. The home team was restricted to exact 152 runs after the completion of the 20th over and the match was tied.
Umesh Yadav got two wickets whereas Ashish Nehra, Morne Morkel and Shahbaz Naddem ended up with one wicket each.
