Pakistan, the only Asian team to beat Proteas in South Africa – ODI series

The Green Shirts became the first and only Asian Side to clinch the ODI series 2-1, against the mighty hosts, South Africa, on November 30, 2013, at Centurion.

The Pakistani squad landed in South Africa to take part in three One Day Internationals under the leadership of Misbah-ul-Haq. The visitors reached there after losing the five ODI home series 4-1 against the Proteas which was held in U.A.E in October – November, 2013. It was expected that the hosts would white whitewash the depleted visiting side, who in turn re-emerged as a mighty competitor and surprised the home side with their performance.

Below, we will summarize the performance of two teams in three One Day Internationals.

1-     The first game was played on November 24, 2013, at Newlands, Cape Town, on November 24, 2013.

Pakistan – 9-218 in 50 overs, Anwar Ali 43* (6×4), Bilawal Bhatti 39 (3×4 2×6), Dale Steyn 3-33, Morne Morkel 3-39)

South Africa – 195 all out in 48.1 overs, (Jacques Kallis 50, Jean-Paul Duminy 49, Bilawal Bhatti 3-37, Anwar Ali 2-24)

Player of the match – Anwar Ali (Pakistan)

Result – Pakistan won by 23 runs and led the series 1- 0.

2-     The second ODI was held on November 27, 2013, at St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth,(45 overs game).

Scores

Pakistan – 262 all out in 45 overs, Ahmed Shehzad 102 (8×4 2×6), Umar Akmal 42 (4×4 2×6), Sohaib Maqsood 42 (3×4), Dale Steyn 6-39.

South Africa – 6-261 in 45 overs, Hashim Amla 98 (7×4), AB de Villiers 74 (8×4 2×6), Quinton de Kock 47 (3×4 1×6), Junaid Khan 3-42, Shahid Afridi 2-38.

Player of the match – Ahmed Shehzad (Pakistan)

Result – Pakistan won the match by one run and led the series 2-0.

3-     The third event was played at SuperSport Park, Centurion, on November 30, 2013.

Scores

Pakistan – 179 all out in 46.5 overs, Misbah-ul-Haq 79 (4×4 2×6), Umar Amin 25 (4×4 1×6), Vernon Philander 3-26, Ryan McLaren 2-28.

South Africa – 6-181 in 38.4 overs, AB de Villiers 48* (3×4), Hashim Amla 41 (6×4), Saeed Ajmal 2-34.

Player of the match – Vernon Philander (South Africa)

Player of the series – Saeed Ajmal (Pakistan)

Result – South Africa won by four wickets while Pakistan grasped the series 2-1.
