Kings XI Punjab bulldozed Pune Warriors

Kings XI Punjab 2-100 (Manan Vohra 43*, Mandeep Singh 31, Angelo Mathews 1-12) beat Pune Warriors 9-99 (Abhishek Nayar 25*, Robbin Uthapa 19, Azhar Mahmood 2-19) by eight wickets.

The batsmen of Pune Warriors managed less than just hundred runs and those of Kings XI Punjab achieved the target easily with plenty of overs to spare.

Pune Warriors scored just 99 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allocated 20 overs and Kings XI Punjab smashed 100 runs in 12.2 overs with 8 wickets in hand.

The debutant in the IPL, Manan Vohra, (Kings XI Punjab) was declared ‘Player of the match’ for his unbeaten attacking innings of 43 off just 28 balls.

The 6th match of the Indian Premier League was held on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, Pune.

Earlier, the captain of Pune Warriors, Angelo Mathews, won the toss and decided to bat first on his home ground. They had a bad start since the first wicket was lost at one run as Tirumalasetti Suman joined together with Robin Uthappa. They hit 3 fours in the following overs as the first was gone as 21 in five overs after scoring just six runs. Marlon Samuels continued with his bleak form and was dismissed for three whereas Robin Uthappa became the fourth victim for 19 runs.

The bowlers of Kings XI Punjab became unplayable and the home side was reeling at 6-53 in 13.3 overs. Abhishek Nayar and Mitchell Marsh tried to control the innings as the later hit 12 runs in the 16th over with 1 six and 1 four. They enhanced the score to 78 when Marsh was clean bowled by Ryan Harris for 15 as Nayar secured his end with 25 off 26 balls with 3 fours. Pune Warriors were restricted to 99 runs when the required quota of 20 overs was utilised.

Praveen Kumar and Azhar Mahmood were the most successful bowlers with two wickets each whereas Ryan Harris, Parvinder Awana and Piyush Chawla shared one wicket each.

Kings XI Punjab went on to a flying start since their skipper, Adam Gilchrist gathered 14 runs in the very first over with 1 six and a couple of fours. The other opener Mandeep Singh added five runs in the next over as Gilchrist was caught by Marlon Samuels at deep square leg off Angelo Mathews for 15. Manan Vohra associated with Mandeep Singh who hit a four on the first ball of the fourth over and Vohra punished Ashok Dinda for 4 consecutive boundaries. Mandeep Singh was dropped at 22 on the fourth delivery of the ninth over and he utilised the chance by scoring another 2 fours. His stumps were finally broken by Rahul Sharma for 31 off 26 balls with 4 fours.

Manan Vohra continued with his aggressive style and sent the ball out of the fence twice as the new comer, David Hussey hit 1 four in the process. Vohra powered 43from 28 deliveries comprising 7 well timed fours as the target was attained by scoring 100 runs with 7.4 overs to spare.

Kings XI Punjab won the match in an authoritative manner with a huge margin of eight wickets and they secured two points.
