Sunrisers Hyderabad Tyrannized Kings XI Punjab

Sunrisers Hyderabad 7-150 (Parthiv Patel 61, Thisara Perera 32*, Sandeep Sharma 3-21) beat Kings XI Punjab 9-120 (Luke Pomersbach 33*, Adam Gilchrist 26, Darren Sammy 4-22) by 30 runs.

Parthiv Patel played a vital knock while opening the innings for Sunrisers Hyderabad and the lethal bowling from Darren Sammy drowned Kings XI Punjab.

Sunrisers Hyderabad blasted 150 runs after losing seven wickets at the end of the stipulated 20 overs and Kings XI Punjab scored 120 with one wicket remaining.

Parthiv Patel (Sunrisers Hyderabad) was announced ‘Player of the match’ for his brisk innings of 61 off 47 balls.

The 59th game of the Indian Premier League was held on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh.

Adam Gilchrist, the captain of Kings XI Punjab, won the toss and decided to chase. Parthiv Patel along with Shikhar Dhawan opened the innings for the visitors and they scored 28 in the first four overs. Dhawan was caught and bowled by Harmeet Singh for 15 and was replaced by Hanuma Vihari who was gone for five. Cameron White, the skipper of Sunrisers Hyderabad, got in next and tried to move briskly with Patel and reached 51 in 7.5 overs when the first was declared leg before wicket off Sandeep Sharma for 10. The next two batsmen were unable to open their accounts and the tourists were reeling at 5-52 in 8.4 overs.

Karan Sharma got together with Parthiv Patel who kept on marching at his end. Sharma hit 1 six and 1 four in the 14th over but was caught behind by Gilchrist off Parvinder Awana for 22. Thisara Perera walked in next and was dropped at 1 on the last ball of the 16th over. The batsman got advantage of the chance by dispatching 13 runs in the 18th over with 1 six and 1 four as Parthiv Patel smashed his fifty in the same over. Patel accumulated another 11 runs but was run out for 61 off 47 comprising 2 lofty sixes and 5 fours. Thisara Perera remained unbeaten for 32 off 19 with 2 sixes and even fours as Sunrisers Hyderabad hammered 150 with three wickets intact in 20 overs.

Sandeep Sharma was the highest wicket taker with three whereas Parvinder Awana, Harmeet Singh and Piyush Chawla shared one wicket each.

Kings XI Punjab lost their first batsman at one as Shaun March joined in with Adam Gilchrist. Marsh sent the ball out of the rope thrice and Gilchrist added 2 fours in the following overs as Darren Sammy got rid of both batsmen in the 8th over. Marsh and Gilchrist scored 18 and 26 runs respectively and the third wicket was lost at 45. The home side was in trouble at 4-51 after 9.4 overs as Luke Pomersbach and Rajagopal Sathish tried to stabilise the innings.

They crawled to 71 after 13 overs as Sathish dispatched a couple of sixes and one four in the 14th over. The score was enhanced to 102 in 16.5 overs when Rajagopal Sathish ran himself out for 25. Luke Pomersbach was the only batsman who secured his end for 33 off 40 with 1 six and 1 four as the following four batsmen could not touch the double figures. Kings XI Punjab managed 120 runs for the loss of 9 wickets after the last ball of the 20th over was bowled.

Darren Sammy ruled the day while grabbing four wickets, Dale Steyn held one whereas Thisara Perera got one wicket.

Sunrisers Hyderabad won the encounter with a big margin of 30 runs with their all round performance.
